DSPE-PEG-Cy5, MW 5,000 is an amphiphilic polyPEG which can self-assemble in aqueous solution to form micelles or lipid bilayer used in liposome as drug carrier. The lipid tails can be used to encapsulate hydrophobic drugs while the hydrophilic head can be used to encapsulate hydrophilic drugs or mRNA/DNA. The Cy5 is a red fluorophore commonly used in protein and nucleic acid labeling for imaging, flow cytometry, and genomic applications. The dye has an excitation peak at 651 nm and an emission peak at 670 nm.
